The staff at Renaissance Adult Day Services believes caring for their clients goes beyond the services they provide at their adult day centers. For them, it also includes ensuring they have the proper attire, especially during the winter months. They are looking in their own closets to donate winter coats and other winter weather accessories as well as asking the community to help as they host their first annual coat drive. The goal is to collect at least 200 winter coats for all the clients in the Bronx and Brooklyn Renaissance locations. All coats they receive over that will be donated to Jackie’s Place, a new homeless shelter out of the Bronx Parents Housing Network (BPHN).
Alexander Markowits, President/CEO of Renaissance Adult Day Services, and Eileen Parenti, Executive Director at Renaissance Adult Day Services, did not hesitate when the coat drive was requested. “Our clients are like family to us at Renaissance,” said Markowits. Parenti added, “The care of our clients is our responsibility and we take that to heart.” She goes on to say, “The Social Model Director at our Bronx location noticed that some of our clients, who must be pre-approved through Medicaid for home care in order to come to our adult day facilities, were not properly dressed when the weather began to get colder. Sometimes they need some extra help, and if we can, we like to provide it. We immediately agreed with her to help them and are looking forward to having an overly successful drive allowing us to donate coats to Jackie’s Place as well.”
The coats will be given to the clients on December 15, 2016 at the Bronx location and December 21, 2016 at the Brooklyn location during each’s holiday party in grand style. Each recipient can participate in a festive fashion show, walking the runway and strutting their new looks.
New or gently used coats may be donated in all adult sizes by Friday, December 2, 2016. Drop off locations are each of the two Renaissance Adult Day Services: 787 E 156th Street, Bronx, New York 10455 and 2625 Bedford Avenue Brooklyn, New York 11226. For more information, please contact Jackie Calderon, Social Model Director at the Bronx location, at 917-398-0070 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
