Although we can’t force any of our associates to have fun at work, Spring Hills has worked hard in creating an environment that fosters fun in all aspects.
A happy work environment means fewer sick days, harder work, and greater productivity. Associates with a positive mindset are 31% more productive than those with a negative mindset – or even a neutral one. Studies over the last two decades have revealed when workplaces make fun a factor it creates happier associates that feel more satisfied. And happy associates are all around better at their jobs. Workplace fun has been linked to:
- Enhanced motivation
- Increased productivity
- Reduced stress
- Higher job satisfaction
- Improved task performance
Having fun is one way of effectively managing and improving associates’ emotions. It’s also proven to improve teamwork, build trusting relationships and increase associate retention. At the end of the day it’s all about the company culture that you want to create, and more importantly, that people want to work in.
Across the Spring Hills continuum of care, our company culture is focused on bringing our associates together and establishing personal relationships. At the forefront of our culture is our Daily Standup. Every day, every employee on every shift takes part in our Standup meetings. Each week has a theme and each day has a discussion topic with references to the company C.A.R.E. Standards, Code of Conduct and friendly reminders to staff to bring attention to our mission to demonstrate “Caring with a Commitment to Quality.”
Having culture as a central focus each and every day helps to reinforce company values and remind every associate what it means to work for Spring Hills. The more you say and do things, the more prevalent it becomes in your life. From simple reminders to be patient with each other to supporting new efforts and showing gratitude, our vision for an environment where “diversity is valued, quality of life is enhanced, and personal and professional ethics are recognized” can be achieved.
How We Foster Fun
We understand that everyone has a different definition of what it means to have fun in the workplace. Some associates enjoy group outings and experiences while others simply enjoy the comradery of team members. Regardless of where you may fall on your personal definition, fun is not something that we can force on our associates. Sitting everyone in a room and telling them to have fun together would be impossible. However, creating an environment filled with great people, positive mindsets and supportive culture fosters a workplace with endless opportunities for fun.
Being comfortable and having the ability to openly and honestly communicate with your team allows everyone to open up and establish relationships that mean something beyond work. Establishing connections and feeling comfortable allows for laughs and playful banter even in the workplace. Although we can’t force any of our associates to have fun at work, Spring Hills has worked hard in creating an environment that fosters fun in all aspects.
