Healthcare, across the continuum has been forced to make decisive actions to adapt their care and operations to keep everyone as safe as possible. Senior living, in relation to assisted living, memory care, post-acute care or even home care services, are creating a “new normal.” Within that, certain aspects of the care have either had to be paused entirely or adjusted to keep everyone safe. Here are a few of the ways our staff has had to adjust to the new normal across our continuum of care.
Wear Proper Protective Equipment at All Times
The health and safety of our residents and staff is the number one priority of our company. So, first and most importantly, our staff has had to be adaptive to meet all safety procedures, as recommended by the CDC and government officials. According to the CDC’s official considerations for preventing spread of COVID-19 in assisted living facilities, “Personnel should wear a facemask at all times while they are in the facility.” Our staff wear masks at all times as well as following other safety procedures depending on the situation and specific field of care that is being provided across our continuum of care.
Activities are a staple of assisted living, memory care, and long-term care living communities. However, with new social distancing guidelines, group activities have had to be paused and changed to one-on-one activities within the safety of the senior’s apartment. Officials have recommended to “modify or cancel group activities.” We have acted decisively at all times during this pandemic and moved quickly to update our activities from a group approach to a one-on-one style to ensure that the seniors remain engaged but in a safe way. A Whole New Take on Signature Dining
We have always prided ourselves on our Signature Dining program. With the current COVID-19 pandemic, our dining staff had to update their program to ensure safety for everyone involved. Health experts recommend, “Instead of communal dining, consider delivering meals to rooms, creating a “grab n’ go” option for residents.” With that guidance, we canceled communal dining and moved to delivering meals to their rooms. This process helps keep the seniors safe and our staff has been proud to adapt to this new way of serving them their meals.
Virtual Tours for Prospective Residents
We consider everyone a member of the Spring Hills family even before they become a resident. We welcome them into our family from the initial point of contact. With that in mind, we have implemented our Spring Hills Cares program which offers virtual webinars focusing on building a connection with the families of our residents by inviting them to join our communities for a variety of the virtual activities we are offering.
