What It Means to Work for Spring Hills During COVID-19

We have been dedicated to our associates in every way that we possibly could during the pandemic to ensure that they feel appreciated and recognized. There is no way around the fact that being a healthcare worker, especially in senior living communities such as assisted living, memory care, home care, or post-acute care, is not easy. It’s hard on the mental and physical health of the brave people who continue to serve and we understand that. Here are a few of the ways that we have put in the effort to show our support and appreciation to our healthcare heroes.

Ensuring their Safety Comes First

This is first and most important on our list of priorities when it comes to our team. We have followed CDC guidelines closely from day one of the pandemic and have implemented their Best Practices into our company’s policies to ensure the safety of our associates at all times. One example is by mandating all employees who feel sick to stay home to avoid spread of COVID-19 wherever possible and allow them to keep themselves safe as well. This decision was made in conjunction with the CDC’s official recommendation that, “Employees who have symptoms should notify their supervisor and stay home. Sick employees should follow CDC-recommended steps. Employees should not return to work until the criteria to discontinue home isolation are met, in consultation with healthcare providers.” The health and wellbeing of our team has always been our top priority during the pandemic.

Heroes Work Here

In the early days of the virus, we acted decisively to be leaders in the industry by proudly displaying signs that say heroes work here for our teams and the whole community to see every day. Associate appreciation has always been a staple of our company culture, but we knew that we had to go even further during the pandemic. We also produced video content on our social media channels to show our support to our teams at our assisted living, memory care, and post-acute care communities for the world to see online. We are proud to be vocal in our support for our heroes of healthcare, who selflessly give of themselves every day to ensure the safety of the people in our care.

Offering Resources on a Weekly Basis during Stand Up

We understand that there is a real need to step up and offer support to employees whenever you can. While we have always placed a great deal of importance on offering resources and support to our associates, we have doubled down on that by educating our team on a weekly basis on various resources available to them, particularly for their mental health. The National Safety Council has found that, “The COVID-19 pandemic will affect the mental health and wellbeing of employees well beyond the immediacy of the initial crisis.” With that in mind, that is why we began sharing resources with our team on a weekly basis that are available to them for support and crisis management when it comes to their safety and wellbeing. 

Communication is the Key to Success

One of our company’s core Codes of Conduct is Communication. Now more than ever, communication is vital to ensure morale is as high as possible and the communities remain as safe as possible for everyone who inhabits them. JSI notes that, “Effective and timely health communication is always important, but this has become even more clear as the public health and medical communities work to stop the spread of the new coronavirus across the world.” Not only can communication help create better relationships in the workplace, it can also keep everyone safer.  The key to successful outcomes, in any situation, is in large part due to clear, concise and ongoing communication.
